S#4: Til Death Do Us Part (409)

01/15/00

It's been a year since her boyfriend's death, Thomas Gates, and Miss Parker remembers some of the good moments she spent with him. Getting up, she sees Tommy in the shower, but that is all an illusion.

In Jarod's lair, Broots and Sydney are waiting for her. When Miss Parker arrives, she takes a look through the place. Jarod worked in a circus and all the room is decorated with clowns and objects related to the circus. When they're almost leaving, Miss Parker finds a model that recreates her first meeting with Thomas, at the gas station. Sydney, Broots and Miss Parker leave and she says that Jarod must be laughing right now. But, after they left, Jarod shows up from a corner - he was one of the clowns - and says that he is hardly laughing.

Miss Parker is in the cemetery, next to Thomas' grave. When she's leaving, Jarod shows up. She is troubled due to everything that happened and points a gun at him. However, Jarod is not worried because he took the pin out of the gun and it won't work. Miss Parker checks that and is even more miserable. She asks him what he is doing there and he answers her that he wants to pay respects to Thomas Gates and to find out who killed him. Jarod tries to put some flowers on Thomas' grave, but Miss Parker grabs them and tells him that he doesn't know what Thomas deserves just because he's a genius. Miss Parker turns her back to Jarod and asks him why he even cares, but when she turns around, he's gone (probably he's hiding behind that big tree. LOL). Miss Parker finds a card, similar to those of Thomas', in the flowers. The card says "RUMOR 58259".

At The Centre, Broots tells Miss Parker that "RUMOR 58259" is a Centre code, where "rumor" is the name of the operative and the numbers should be the code for a phone tap. Broots tells her that it shouldn't be easy to find the file and they ask her if she hadn't heard something.

In Mr. Parker's office, Cox, Lyle and Miss Parker are talking about Mutumbo's death. Mr. Cox also says that whoever killed Mutumbo also took out his eyes, and then he asks her if she saw her father. Lyle explains that the gun used to kill Mutumbo was traced to the highest level of The Centre, and that includes Miss Parker, Mr. Parker and himself. Cox accuses their father was murdering Mutumbo. Suddenly, Miss Parker is distracted by Tommy's figure. He enters the office, saying that he knows that she wants to tell him something. She tries to speak, but she cannot do it. However, Thomas assures her that she'll be able, in due time. Cox snaps his finger in front of Miss Parker's face, "awakening" her. He says he will find Mr. Parker and, when he has done that, those allied to him will consider themselves endangered species. Mr. Cox leaves, leaving Lyle and Miss Parker alone. Lyle tells his sister that he was accusing them of cooperating with their father and she could at least pretended to pay attention. Then, she too leaves the office.

Miss Parker is talking with Sydney. She tells him that she's been seeing Thomas and Sydney answers her that her visions of him could be caused by the stress she's been living in. He also tells her that maybe he is giving her a second chance to finish something. Miss Parker receives a call from her father. She asks him if he killed Mutumbo, but Mr. Parker tells her that he wouldn't be missing his eyes if he had been the one to kill him. Mr. Parker says that he only needs one more piece. Then, everything would be like it was before and that the survivors would be together again.

Broots and Sydney are in Miss Parker's office again. Broots says that one of his friends (Manny, the mute) told him that the code is a phone tap, placed in Thomas' phone, that was sent to "rumor". Broots plays a part of the conversation for Miss Parker. Thomas and Jarod were friends!

Miss Parker arrives to her house. While staring at a photograph of hers with Tommy, Miss Parker hears noises in her bathroom, more precisely, there's someone in the shower. Pulling the curtain, Miss Parker finds Brigitte! All of a sudden, Mr. Parker shows up and tells her that they used the key she gave him and entered from the back. He also asks her the car. Brigitte says that Mr. Parker found a safe place and also a doctor they can trust. When they're about to leave, Miss Parker remembers to ask her father if he knows what "rumor 58259" means. He says that he doesn't know, but Brigitte says that it is the code of the operative in charge of the mission and a digital tap.

The next day, Jarod calls Miss Parker and they talk about Jarod being Thomas' friends. She demands to know who killed him. Jarod, however, says that he doesn't know and that he only wanted to see them happy. Miss Parker realizes that Jarod knew Thomas before she did. Jarod assures her that the only thing that he knows about Thomas' killer is that it is "rumor" and finishes the call saying that rumors can kill her. Then, Miss Parker sees Thomas sitting on the couch and he tells her to trust Jarod.

In the bathroom, Broots is laughing at some paper in the wall, that says "vote for more hated: 1 flush Mr. Lyle 2 flushes Mr. Raines and 3 flushes Mr. Cox. While Broots is reading it, two sweepers place themselves next to him and Cox stays behind. When Broots turns around, he's frighten to death. Cox presses him to say what he knows - what kind of rumors he's been hearing - and tries to make him talk, placing his hand under the hand dryer, until Broots screams with pain. In Miss Parker's office, Broots is putting his hand in ice and telling her that Cox was only interested in Mr. Parker and not in "rumor". Miss Parker and Sydney believe that Cox is the hit man hired to kill Mr. Parker, as well as Brigitte and maybe the baby. Broots says that he reached the conclusion that the identity of Thomas' killer is in a Z3 file (files used for hired assassins).

Broots takes Miss Parker home. After he offered himself to keep her company, Miss Parker talks with him about how death affects people's lives. Miss Parker notices a file, placed above the fireplace: the Z3 file. Miss Parker learns who "rumor" is and leaves Broots alone in the house.

Miss Parker finds her car, but before she leaves the one she's using, she sees Thomas that tells her to be careful. Reaching the now stopped car, Miss Parker orders Brigitte to get out, but the only person inside is her father. Miss Parker wants to know where Brigitte is and tells her father that she killed Thomas. Mr. Parker claims to know nothing about that and his only concern is the baby. Mr. Parker says that Brigitte used to talk about a cabin in the mountains and that she left the key at The Centre. Miss Parker heads to her car again, but not before a warning from her father - he doesn't want her to hurt Brigitte, because of the baby.

Miss Parker goes to The Centre and finds Lyle, that warns her that this is not the best time to be there and be named "Parker". He also tells her to be away from Cox, because he'll be doing the same. Then, Miss Parker finds Broots. She asks him to find the key in Brigitte's office and to call her when he's done that.

While she waits for Broots' call, Miss Parker receives one from Jarod. He tells her that Thomas found love in her eyes. Miss Parker says that there's something she never told Thomas and, somehow, she tells him that Brigitte was the killer. Jarod didn't know that and assures her that he didn't leave any Z3 file at her home. When they're done with the call, Broots shows up and brings the key of Brigitte's cabin, as well as its address, with him. Miss Parker grabs her gun and leaves Broots alone in her house again.

Miss Parker reaches the cabin and finds Brigitte already in labor. Miss Parker asks her why she killed Tommy and Brigitte answers her that she was given orders. However she doesn't say whose because she's having a contraction. Brigitte tells Miss Parker that she doesn't have to kill her because she will die during the delivery. Miss Parker tries to call for help, but the phone doesn't have a signal. Brigitte explains that the line went dead after she told Mr. Parker to bring the doctor. She says that she ran away to keep the hit man away from Mr. Parker and that she loves him very much, despite everything Miss Parker may think.

Meanwhile, at The Centre, Broots is in the bathroom. After placing an "out of order" sign on the hand dryer machine and checking if someone else is in the bathroom with him, he washes his face. But when he tries to grab a towel, it's Mr. Cox who gives it to him. Cox says that Manny, the mute spoke about him, and then he silently tortures Broots.

Brigitte apologizes to Miss Parker for killing Thomas and tells her that the orders came from the inside of The Centre, from someone that thought that Miss Parker was losing focus. While Brigitte is having the baby, a helicopter arrives, but she doesn't survive enough time. Mr. Cox comes in, with a can of gas and, when Miss Parker sees him, she draws her gun and points it at him. But, Mr. Parker also arrives and says that Doctor Cox is on their side and that he is there for the baby. When Miss Parker hands the baby to her father, he says that the baby is the last piece, while giving him to a nurse. Miss Parker asks her father if he left her the Z3 file in her house, but he denies it. She also confronts him about the fact that he's not showing any concern for the death of his wife, but he tells her that Brigitte was betraying him. Then, Cox puts the gun that killed Mutumbo in Brigitte's hand, so they can accuse her. Mr. Parker isn't interested in knowing from what gender the baby is. The cabin explodes, while its recent occupants watch from the helicopter, also leaving Brigitte's body behind.

In the cemetery, Miss Parker is near Thomas' grave again. Jarod calls her and she confesses that she wouldn't find any peace even if she had taken revenge for Thomas' death. Miss Parker also tells Jarod that she never told Thomas that she loved him and that, now, she would give everything to tell him that. The scene changes and Miss Parker is in a beautiful garden while Thomas approaches her. They embrace and Miss Parker tells him that she loves him. He goes and Miss Parker keeps walking in the garden, in peace with herself.
