S#4: Ghosts From The Past (413)

02/26/00

The episode begins with Angelo in a cell repeating the sentence "Jarod, danger, hate, destroy." Then, Angelo starts singing a song while scratching a cross on the wall.

In Georgia, two afro-american girls are singing the same song as Angelo in a church. Their father, Pastor Malcolm Jones, arrives and leaves the church with them. That church is going to be holding a Unity Rally. But when they leave, they are terrorized by a racist group that threatens them, because of the rally. They get back into the church and when the members of the racist group get into their cars, we can see that one of them is Jarod.

At The Centre, Sam takes Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots to Angelo, where he is analyzing everything used by Jarod in his pretends. What Angelo is saying leads Sydney to believe that someone Jarod contacted - and brought to justice - wants to kill him.

At the house where the racist groups is staying, one of the members warns the others that the General, the leader of the group, is arriving earlier than predicted. The General wants them to execute a plan, which includes C-4 explosives, for the reunion and also ordered them not to go out of the place they're staying in.

At The Centre, while Angelo checks several objects, Sydney tells Miss Parker that one of the persons that Jarod brought to justice wants to kill him and she answers him that the queue starts behind her. Wee see flashbacks of the episode "Someone To Trust", in which Jarod met the Black Widow, but Angelo says that it's not her. When Angelo finds who wants to kill Jarod, The Centre will be able to catch him.

Back at the house occupied by the group, Jarod is in charge of making the explosive, because he is the expert. Jarod remembers the conversation he had with Sydney about racism, while listening to Martin Luther King's speech. Jarod learns that the General wants to explode the place where the Pastor's girls will be.

Angelo is carrying the gun used by a man (Joey Malino) in the episode "A Stand Up Guy", while also holding the plaque used to fabricate money. As we see flashbacks of that episode, Angelo also eliminates Joey, saying that hate is getting closer to Jarod. Jarod takes advantage of the other members' distraction to try to get to the car, but Luke stops him saying that no one can leave the area until the General's arrival. All of a sudden, the other men come outside to inform them that the General found a traitor among them.

During the night, the Pastor's children are getting ready to go to bed, but, however, they are frightened and ask their father why people hate them when they've done nothing wrong. He answers them that people are afraid of what they don't know and because of that they feel hate. He tries to tranquilize them, what proves to be a difficult job.

Angelo eliminates one more suspect - Captain Robert Saunders (ep. "Survival"). Then, Angelo says that someone hates Jarod more and grabs Broots by the arm, taking off a net from a box. Angelo is more enraged and says that the person in question hates Jarod and also Miss Parker.

While Jarod is standing outside the house, the General arrives and talks to the men that are willing to help to find the traitor. But, as soon as the General lays his eyes on Jarod, he recognizes him. It happens that the General is Bartlett, from the episode "Keys". We see more flashbacks, this time from Bartlett in the net made by Jarod, the same that Angelo was holding moments before. When the flashbacks end, Bartlett starts to beat Jarod up, who falls to the ground.

Back at The Centre, Angelo is in the net, the same way Bartlett was. Miss Parker explains to Sydney and Broots what happened with Bartlett when Jarod and her were made hostages during the hurricane. Angelo identifies positively Bartlett as being the man who wants to take revenge on Jarod. Miss Parker orders Broots to check if Bartlett is still in prison and also tells him that Bartlett is the worse kind of racist, capable of killing his own mother. Miss Parker is visibly worried with Jarod's life, but ends her sentence saying that if Bartlett finds Jarod first, he will kill him, and ruin her chances.

Jarod is tied and on the floor fearing for his own life, for he knows that Bartlett wants to see him dead. Luke offers to take Jarod into the woods, where he is going to shoot him. Jarod is on his knees, in a place away from the house, ready to die. Bartlett is sitting on a chair and having a drink when he hears a gunshot. That makes him smile. But, without Bartlett's knowledge, Jarod is still alive. It seems that Luke is an undercover agent working for the state police and that was never going to kill him. Jarod tells him that he is working for the ATF and both agree that they have to stop Bartlett before he makes something crazy. Luke wants to get him now, but Jarod wants to catch him in the act. To make Bartlett believe in Jarod's death, he cuts his arm and rubs it on his shirt, so that Luke can take that as evidence. Bartlett examines the bomb made by Jarod and realizes that it wouldn't explode, because it had some wires mixed. Luke arrives and Bartlett buys Jarod's death. Then, and with the bomb correctly set to explode, Luke offers to put it, but Bartlett is against, saying that it is his plan and that he will place the bomb himself and end the rally one and for all, leaving the house with it.

Miss Parker is in her office remembering several times she met with Jarod. First, she remembers when they were introduced, during an experience; then, she remembers their encounter in Florida ("ep. "Keys"), when Jarod told her that he saved her because he still remembered the little girl who gave him his first kiss; and for last, she remembers the kiss, but is "awaken" by Broots, that tells her that Bartlett was arrested due to a technical detail and that there are rumors that he's the leader of a racist groups that is getting ready to interfere with the rally in Georgia. Miss Parker tries to disguise her worry about Jarod.

Bartlett gets into the church, where he's planning to leave the bomb, but is stopped by Jarod. However, when he tries to shoot Jarod, the bullets wouldn't work, because Jarod was the one that filled the guns. Later on, Bartlett awakes, because Jarod left him unconscious. But he doesn't awake in the same place he was. Bartlett is tied to a cross. Jarod puts gasoline around it, so that Bartlett feels terror, but he isn't terrorized at all, because he knows that Jarod won't kill him. He also says that Jarod ain't got the heart to do it, but the woman that was with him that day had. Jarod answers him that is not his heart that he needs, but another part of his anatomy and assures him that he's got those. However, Bartlett's opinion changes as Jarod is putting the gasoline and lightning up the fuse, which is going to light up the word "repent" at the end of the cross. Taking a few marshmallows, Jarod says that he doesn't have the heart to kill or to hate. He leaves him when he sees the police arriving to arrest Bartlett.

The next day, at the church, everybody is present and singing the same song we heard in the beginning. Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots arrive to the church and the Pastor approaches them. Miss Parker shows him a picture of Jarod but he claims that he never saw him. Pastor Jones also tells them that Bartlett is in the State Penitentiary and Miss Parker says that she hopes that he stays there for good. The Pastor also says that he hopes that one day "Bartlett chooses to end the life of hate and start the heal that only love and forgiveness can bring." The sentence seems to hit Miss Parker that asks him to pray for them all. The group leaves the church and gets into the car, not knowing that Jarod is on the top of the roof, clapping hands at the sound of the music.
